Set of Two Coordinating Phulkari Lumber Cushion Covers

Sold out
£ 149.00 GBP
This is a stunning pair of decorative pillows/cushion covers which has been fashioned from a vintage Phulkari shawl originating from Northern India. The base fabric is handloom cotton which has been intricately hand-embroidered with silk stitching in geometric designs. They are backed with plain cotton and have concealed zips.

Phulkari (“Phul meaning flower and “Kari” meaning work) is a traditional rural art of embroidering a shawl crafted by women in the Punjab. Phulkari fabrics are linked integrally with milestone events in a woman’s life, especially birth and wedding celebrations.

The pillow covers measure 60cm by 40cm. The original phulkari shawl is estimated to have been made between the mid to late 20th century. It is in good condition, with some signs of wear and tear in keeping with its age which goes to underline the history of these unique pieces.

This listing is for BOTH of the pillows. Please note that the cushion inserts are not included.
